Japan’s trains are famous for being punctual, clean and… a little overwhelming at first. With these words, you’ll understand signs, announcements and ticket machines.

Train manners

  • Talking on the phone in trains is avoided; set your phone to silent mode ().
  • Queue in the marked lines on the platform and let people get off first.
